November is a month that we not only give honor and thanks to our Father in heaven for his many blessings, but it is also a time where we honor and thank our veterans for their dedication and sacrifice as well.

PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder ) in veterans vary by their service era. 11 to 20 out of every 100 veterans who served in OIF or OEF have PTSD, about 12 out of every 100 Gulf War Veterans and

it is estimated that about 30 out of every 100 Vietnam Veterans have PTSD in their lifetime.

Here are a few tips and resources for helping Veterans with PTSD, that can also be helpful for anyone suffering from PTSD:

1. Help a Veteran to seek mental health treatment.

2. Educate others and raise awareness about PTSD.

3. Encourage Veterans to join a support group.

4. Find healthy ways to socialize and collaborate with Veterans.

PTSD in Veterans is often misunderstood as only affecting combat veterans, or those who have encountered violence. Below are a few resources that can assist Veterans with treatment and management of PTSD:

1. American psychiatric association

2. Lifeline for vets

3. Mayo Clinic

4. National Alliance on Mental Illness

5. US Department of Veterans Affairs PTSD treatment.

Not only are these resources helpful for veterans, but may also be helpful for anyone dealing with PTSD. Finding the language to help a loved one in crisis is key to supporting each other on our journeys through life.
